Our team provided design engineering and construction support for the Department of Energy National Energy Technology Center through a ten-year open contract. The work covered labs, offices and test facilities for the development of enhanced efficiency applications of fossil fuels. The work included all three NETL research centers located in Pittsburgh, PA, Albany Oregon, and Morgantown, WV.
The building above is the main support building at the Morgantown facility. It is a five level facility housing their main computer center for all three locations and offices for researchers and facility support staff. Due to the sensitive nature of the research at this government facility and related security concerns, the building was designed to withstand an explosion from the nearest roadway. While designed with many enhanced features peculiar to their client needs, the facility was still able to obtain a LEED Silver rating.
