McKim & Creed provided mechanical, electrical and structural engineering services for multiple infrastructure upgrades. This included replacing both office and laboratory air handling units, installing a new chilled water bridge which incorporated a building heat exchanger, pumps and control systems, and a replacement of the building automation system. The building exhaust was replaced with a new laboratory exhaust air system and a smoke evacuation system. A new electrical distribution system was added for emergency, legally required, and standby loads. Additionally, McKim & Creed provided emergency power for a new fire pump, extended power from an emergency generator in an adjacent high rise, extended the sprinkler system to floors 3-9 and added a new fire pump coupled with a new fire command center. During these infrastructure upgrades the client decided to expand the project again to include a comprehensive renovation of the top four floors of lab space. The total cost for this project was $21,000,000.
