McKim & Creed is providing MEP/FP engineering services for a new mixed-use development at 50 Collier Ave in Asheville, NC. Located slightly south of downtown, this 62,000 SF development is right in the center of the revitalized South Slope (aka the Brewery District) that now hosts a trendy dining, shopping, and art scene. Fitting right into the neighborhood, 50 Collier will include 34 housing units (a mixture of condos and hotel rooms), a roof terrace, 12,000 SF of retail space, and a restaurant. Our team provided design services for the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems. The mechanical design considered traditional hotel and condos systems, including individual heat pumps, PTAC, VTAC, and fan coil units. We also performed an energy modeling assessment. The electrical design included a lighting plan for exterior, site, and parking lot lighting that accounts for photometric calculations and light leakage requirements by the City of Asheville. Additional electrical design was provided for the fire alarm system, elevator power and communication, and 6 EV charging stations. The plumbing design included domestic hot and cold water, sanitary and vent piping, internal roof drains, rooftop water bibs for general needs and irrigation, a grease trap for the restaurant, and natural gas for cooking and heating requirements. The fire protection services include design for risers, standpipes, and sprinkler heads.
