NCSU’s Watauga Hall required an HVAC equipment replacement as a continuous measure to improve the quality, comfort, and efficiency levels of its facilities. McKim & Creed provided project management and mechanical, electrical, structural and asbestos abatement design. The scope of work included existing air-cooled chiller, outside AHU, fan coil units, outside air supply ductwork, and new DDC controls for all replacement equipment. This 100-ton, multiple-circuit, digital scroll, variable primary, water-cooled chiller for this project was a replacement for an existing unit at the end of its service life. As part of good design, the McKim & Creed team also provided structural analysis, reliability, unit sizing and unit selection. McKim & Creed completed this renovation over the summer break, meeting an accelerated schedule that saved one month of time from design and bidding phases compared to original proposed schedule. McKim & Creed commissioned the full mechanical system for this project, including testing of controls sequences. Our teaming approach and detailed design efforts resulted in a SCO award for excellence.
