In the healthcare world, it’s vital for medical buildings to have state-of-the-art features to equip staff with the tools they need to provide exceptional patient care. When Wake Internal Medicine Consultants (WIMC) needed mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering services for a new 48,000 SF medical office building, they entrusted the job to McKim & Creed. The mechanical scope of this project includes ductwork, piping and VAV boxes and controls, as well as two variable-volume packaged AHU’s designated for the building. An exhaust system for general usage is also being designed. The electrical scope includes design for lighting and power distribution systems and raceway design for data drop locations, an access control system, and cameras. Similarly, HVAC and electrical systems are being designed for specialty equipment and spaces including a CT scanner, X-ray machine and stress testing lab. The plumbing scope includes pressure piping, sanitary, water heaters and natural gas piping. A sprinkler system design is being provided for improved fire protection capacities. The plan also includes space for two EV charging stations. Additionally, McKim & Creed is supplying engineering drawings using Revit and BIM
software and providing construction administration services.
