McKim & Creed is the MEP/FP consultant, working with NBBJ and RM Creative Architects, currently in design for Allegheny Health’s new $450M Cardiovascular Institute Tower at their Pittsburgh North Shore Campus. This project is currently in design. The new nine-level Tower will include 375,000 SF of clinical space including state-of-the-art operating suites with pre/post department, 108 inpatient beds, cardiac rehab, outpatient cardiac clinic, and patient amenities. Relocation of the current helipad on the roof of the new tower is required, and a 50,000 SF integral parking deck is also part of the project. As an urban site, the project is particularly challenging as it will be constructed to integrate and construct over multiple legacy structures on the campus. McKim & Creed is providing the design of HVAC, process mechanical, plumbing, med gas, fire protection and electrical systems. Facility Guidelines Institute-compliant HVAC systems will include innovative terminal-based sensible cooling and energy recovery state-of-the-art technologies, as well as zero particle OR air delivery systems. Electrical design will consist of healthcare-level normal and emergency power including a new emergency power plant, energy-efficient lighting systems, and all low voltage telecom and data systems.
